In response to my recent “Ukraine is life changing” email a few days ago, reader Matt had a comment that is worth considering…
While I know some folks who have traveled to Ukraine for the first time solo, I highly recommend connecting with somebody who has experience with the place for the first trip.
There are just too many simple things that even if they don’t go wrong, just burn up a lot of time, money and energy.
Also, Odessa is scam central in Ukraine.
Let’s address the last point first…Odessa.
Many of you know that I wasn’t a huge fan of it a few years ago.
For some reason, that port town full of pirates and booty (not literally) just had this reputation for ripping people off. And it just…does. Everything is a bit seedier there, a bit grimier, it’s nowhere near as nice as Kiev, Kharkov, and Lviv in Yours Troubly’s humble opinion.
However, that’s not the point of this email.
The point of this email is to discuss how to go about your first trip to a place like Ukraine.
Especially if you are a red-blooded male who likes beautiful girls.
Odessa = scam, remember…
Well, plenty of foreign bride agencies have been born in that town, and many of them really don’t have that stellar of a reputation. To further illustrate this, when Matt mentions the fact that it’s not a bad idea to have some help…you just have to be careful who you get the help from. As in, if you’re paying someone five-fughin-figures to “show you around” Ukraine…
You’re getting ripped off.
Plain and simple.
Yes, the logistics, infrastructure, and getting around Ukraine is difficult at times.
Especially if you are not an experienced traveler.
Let’s put it this way, if you can’t take a trip to a place in Western Europe by yourself and get yourself around a Paris, Barcelona, or London, you’re really going to have a hard time in a place like Ukraine, Russia, or Belarus.
Anyways, that’s my thoughts on the matter…
There are a lot of perks to these farther-Eastern-European places, such as the beautiful girls, low cost of living, and just overall pleasant way of living.
And on one hand, I agree with Matt, it’s good to have some connections to make your life a little bit easier.
But it’s also an environment that is very much sink or swim.
The women don’t really want to do pity.
They want a man who is ready for life.
So, if you’re looking to EE for a longer-term relationship, keep that in mind…
