Once in a while I run across an article, which goes to show that so many people have no basic understandings of why things work in the dating market.
In this particular article:
Having lived in Poland for 15 years now its quite evident that a lot of marriages between Poles and expats seem to nearly always be between a Polish woman and a foreign man, not the other way around. Why is that?
Why is it that it’s not so common to see a Polish man married to a foreign girl. Sure it happens but nobody can argue that it’s not even close when it comes to the numbers.
We outlined some tongue-in-cheek reasons below and goes without saying that you should take them with a pinch of salt. They are all fun stereotypes but what are the real reasons intermarriage seems to work mostly in one direction. Any comments are appreciated…
Nothing against this author, of course. But things that seem like common sense around these parts just isn’t out there as good information, even on seemingly reputable sites from a Polish expat.
I mean, how can you be living in Poland for 15 years and not understand why Polish women would go with Western men, but not necessarily the other way around?
The article goes into a couple of reasons why, you know, the typical kind of things about wanting to raise bilingual children, the status of a westerner, etc. On the flip side, it says that Western women don’t date Polish men because they’re not romantic and they’re narrow-minded.
Nothing could really be further than the truth, really.
It’s as simple as this:
- Western women are not attractive in comparison to Polish girls, hence, there’s no reason for Polish men to date them.
On the flip side…
- Polish women may sometimes be less-than-enthused with their own dating market, hence, they look to upgrade.
It’s More Complicated – But Does It Need To Be?
This is a gross oversimplification, but it’s basic economics, really.
Polish men have less reason to be romantic and put in a great effort with women (nothing against Polish men), because there’s a surplus of feminine, pretty, thin girls in Poland. Granted, it could change, and probably will, but for the most part it’s been this way for quite a while.
Whereas in the Western world…
Western men have to try really, really hard to get a women, which in turn, actually turns women off of them because it’s overzealous and needy, because there is a lack of feminine, pretty, thin girls in the West. The West is a few years ahead of Poland and the rest of Eastern Europe.
Hence, Western men flock to Poland.
Polish men have no reason to even look at Western women.
And eventually, the influx of Western men ruins the economic balance of pretty girls to men.
That’s when things start to go downhill.
