How to shamelessly profit off your friends

A few weeks ago, I wrote an email about how a buddy of mine here in EE had married, divorced, and then re-married.

Well, the day that email went out (and no, I didn’t plan this), I went out to dinner and a wild night of partying with him and his new wife (almost 20 years his junior, I’ll add).

Naturally, my business came up, and wifey mentioned, “I like your daily emails, especially that one about us…”

Not gonna lie.

My heart stopped for a minute, because I’d written the email probably ten days before and couldn’t remember exactly what I’d said in it.

Now, this is still bizarre to me that people I actually know in real life read my daily newsletters and actually enjoy it. But, it’s also an indication of something else:

Not everybody in the world is always looking to be offended.

I think, in today’s world, we have a tendency to walk on eggshells everywhere we go. From work, to family gatherings, to friends — we live in fear of saying the wrong thing to someone. Except, you reach a certain point where you simply aren’t going to care anymore.

I used to always hide my blog from people, at all costs. On dates, I’d play it off to add mystery. To new friends, I’d say I did “internet marketing”.

Now?

I give them the address and tell them to sign up. If they don’t like it, who cares? It’s turned into a a business that affords me a lot of luxuries, adventures, and trouble. If they don’t like it, that’s their problem.

More often than not though:

I hear things from cute EE girls about how they like my “daily thoughts”.

I originally sent that email out during the initial launch phase of DAnet last month, and, if I recall correctly, I got 4 new subscribers to DA-net from that email.

So, I suppose that beers are on me next time I see them.

In any case, I’m going to shamelessly profit off of them a bit more with this email.
