I just got into my apartment in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It has a nice view:
But damn, getting here was absolutely miserable. Unlike when I flew home from Europe in December, I didn’t invest in business class. That’s my general mantra—when I’m going home, I’m not quite that excited. Might as well spice it up a bit. When I’m heading back to Europe, I’m so pumped I might as well tough it out in coach.
So, how’d I get here?
Raleigh, North Carolina to Washington Dulles. Then to London. Then Frankfurt. Finally, Dubrovnik.
You see, my original plan was pretty simple. Raleigh to London to Zagreb to Dubrovnik. But, a completely cancelled flight (after the initial takeoff time, no less) had me scrambling. The result was having to hop on a silly 40 minute flight to DC, and me sitting for a very long time in London.
I can’t sleep on planes. Never have been able to. I always end up awake throughout the overnight, long flight, and then doze a bit on the shorter legs. Of course, I got in extremely late and passed right out. Woke up at 4am. Decided I would go back to sleep…and slept until 1pm.
Just like that, I’m way behind where I’d like to be for the week.
Sure, I wouldn’t trade my life for anything, but it’s not always glamorous. When I was in the Frankfurt Airport, without having showered in nearly 24 hours, falling asleep at the gate to my final plane…it wasn’t all that.
But today’s walk about Dubrovnik changed that.
Life isn’t going to all go your way. For young men in the world, society for the most part is against you. The point is that you just gotta keep going. This setback was pretty small for me, obviously. But I think its important to be transparent.
It’s why I’m doing things like posting my income reports and book sales.
I want you to achieve this same life, if you want it. But I also want you to know that there are things that will drive you mad. I would have preferred a commute to an office rather than this flight.
With that being said, Balkan girls are pretty cute 😉
Up next is Kotor, Montenegro. My Ukrainian girl will be joining me. Oh, and she’s coming on the podcast during the two weeks that we’re there. I’ve got her slotted in for episode 69, no less.
For those of you also on the road—what are some recent setbacks you’ve had? How’d you deal with it?
