You Or Someone Else

You or someone else. The choice is yours.

I’m sitting in my new apartment in Prague. My girl is sitting across the table. She’s writing a paper on quantum mechanics. Or quantum physics. Frankly, I’m not really sure.

Regardless, it doesn’t look like she’s having much fun.

Which leads me to this point: the choice is yours. You can work for you, or you can work for someone else.

She grew up in Ukraine, and she now works for an American company writing these papers (for lazy American students). She didn’t have those opportunities to start a business and make Western-like money. Heck, in Ukraine, putting passwords on your WiFi network is a new thing.

But now that she sees what I do on a daily basis, I can see some fire in her. A desire for more. We’ve discussed how she could start a website that helps people get visas for travel. She has a lot of experience with that. Or a blog detailing the process for studying abroad within the European Union.

Are either of those likely to be million dollar ideas? Not likely–but it’s a start.

That way, instead of writing a paper on this current stuff she’s working on–she’d be working for herself.

And isn’t that what you want out of life?

To not have to answer to anyone? To be a free person, devoid of shackles to a desk and office?

Well, do something about it.

I get so many emails and texts on a daily basis from guys who say they’re just not feeling any motivation. And then I look across the table right now, and…well, any pity I might have had for those guys just goes away.

You see, there are a lot of places in the world that don’t have a tenth of the opportunities that we have in America. And yet 90% of Americans squander all of their opportunities.

But wait, Kyle. You hate America.

That’s true and a fair point. I have no desire to ever live full time in America again. Especially if Hillary gets elected.

However, I do want to see you guys live the best lives you can–no matter what. I don’t want you to have to write academic papers about quantum physics. I don’t want my girl to, either.

So quit squandering the opportunities you do have.

Sitting around and watching NFL and NetFlix all weekend is a sure-fire way not to get ahead in life. As Americans, we have more opportunities to do more with our lives than almost any other country in the world. Geoarbitrage is possibly the greatest thing ever gifted to us.

All of the perks of the wealthier side of life, but at a fraction of the cost.

Don’t believe me?

Take a look at this picture from my new apartment in Prague.

It’s on one of the busiest and liveliest streets in the entire city. The most desirable city for expats and students; basically anyone who is not a tourist in Prague (you couldn’t pay me enough to live there).

And no, my old corporate life didn’t pay for this place.

A few people have asked me how exactly I’m making money now–and well, it’s all out there. Every one of my sites is public and available for you to analyze as much as you’d like.

I had a few people email me recently and actually argue with me about how I made my money. They insisted that I must have other sources of income apart from blogging.

And it’s partially true.

Occasionally I will take on a web design job. Last month I built one for my friend Goldmund Unleashed. I built one for my dad last week. But those two jobs in total paid me barely $500 (friend/family deals).

My killer apartment here in Prague was over $1,000 for this month.

(“You can live abroad for $1k a month!”–another myth I need to debunk. You can, but it won’t be much fun.)

It makes me mad. Shut the hell up and get to work.

Seriously–why are people like that spending time arguing with me as opposed to getting to work themselves?

It’s really pathetic.

Do you want to look on in envy of the people who have done the work to break free, or continue just wishing you could be them while questioning them? Sure, there’s a lot of bullshit out there on the internet about how to make money (here’s some truths).

And apparently, some people would rather argue about the finances of MY business as opposed to starting their own business.

Goodness.

You want it bad enough? Go get it.

I’m just a kid who used to suffer from a ton of anxiety.

I was smart (most of you reading this are), but didn’t apply myself to the right things. I played video games all day and got fat instead of building my web design business in high school.

Then I couldn’t kiss a girl and instead of spending my college years fornicating with hotties, I watched too much porn into the night and graduated one of the sluttiest schools in the nation as a virgin.

But eventually I figured it out.

If you’re reading this, you have so much God damn opportunity it should hurt. And I know this even more now that I live on the other side of the world. It’s almost shameful how much time I squandered. I am just lucky that I figured it out in time.

I sit here and watch my girl struggle with coming to grips with quantum mechanics in a language that she doesn’t natively speak.

It makes me realize it even more than I already did. The only way to do it is to do it for you.

Fuck everyone else.

Your or someone else. The choice is yours.
