Can't Make Money Online

Can’t Make Money Online Due to Equipment? You Mean EXCUSES

These days, I get a lot of questions about how I’m able to produce the amount of content I do.

This Is Trouble has a post, podcast, or video go up nearly every day of the week except Friday.

Pro tip: Fridays are dead days as far as internet traffic goes.

Bachelor Travels doesn’t get that much new content but it’s usually still one or two a week.

And, this year alone I built The Harem Handbook and Tinder and Texting University.

To top it all off, I have a new niche site I’ve built up that has twenty articles in the last two weeks, and am finalizing the paperwork on a new drop shipping site agreement.

So people ask me what kind of equipment I have, the programs I use–you know, the techy kinda stuff. And inevitably, no matter what my response is, I hear some excuses.

“I don’t have the money for a laptop and mine is 3 years old!”

Who gives a damn? My laptop is a 2013 MacBook Air with a battery that doesn’t work. It shuts off randomly, and can’t be used anywhere but at my kitchen table because it doesn’t reach any other outlets (thanks, shitty Ukrainian architecture).

“I don’t know anything about web hosting or website design!”

Who gives a damn? Learn it. It’s so simple. You can sign up for a new website, domain, and hosting in three minutes with the guys at Bluehost.

They’re top notch.

Web design? Hire me. Or you know–install WordPress with Thrive Themes and have a beautiful site out of the box.

“I can’t focus!”

If you ain’t cheatin’ you ain’t tryin’.

The title of this post is about equipment to make money online, so that’s what I’ll stick to.

This year I have been to…

  • Krakow, Poland
  • Kiev, Ukraine
  • Odessa, Ukraine
  • Istanbul, Turkey
  • Kiev (again)
  • Warsaw, Poland
  • Venice, Italy
  • Maranello, Italy
  • Prague, Czech Republic
  • Orleans, France
  • Paris, France
  • Vilnius, Lithuania
  • Kiev (again)

That’s a lot of places to cart around a personal office. The truth about the location independent, nomadic-online-hustler lifestyle is that you don’t need a lot of shit.

The entirety of my business equipment is a MacBook Air, iPad Air 2, Logitech mouse, Blue Snowball microphone, Western Digital Passport and an old Canon PowerShot.

The entire equipment needed to run the Troublesome Media empire can fit into a small gym drawstring bag, if necessary. The MacBook Air is the “heavy lifter” for all of my day to day work. I am thinking about switching back to Windows (I usually prefer it) next year though, and getting an UltraBook of some sort.

I use the iPad for cafe writing, reading on the Kindle App, and watching movies in bed. It also serves as a backup–if something were to happen to the MacBook, I could survive for a few weeks on just the iPad (albeit begrudgingly).

Seriously guys. I’ve been to 11 cities this year. I make my living with six pieces of equipment. Most of you have the tools to get started.

So stop the excuses.
